Silver VW Bora V6 4Motion
We had a call from a local VW owner wanting his Bora prepared for an upcoming show, Sounded good.
Unfortunately some red paint that his garage door had been painted with had managed to get on to his paintwork, luckily it didn't turn out to be too difficult to remove. The owner, Peter, loves his car, you could tell just by looking at it, even so it didn't quite have a show car finish. So we ended up doing quite a bit more work than we had quoted for but it was worth it, especially as his next show was the following weekend.
We were lucky with the weather over the 2 days we spent on detailing the car. The previous couple of weeks had been a typical British summer, plenty of rain, however during the detail it was overcast and a pleasant temperature perfect for washing and polishing. On the minus side the overcast conditions made it difficult to photograph the results, and silver is a difficult colour at the best of times, trust us when we say that the end results looked even better in the flesh.
Anyway day one started with our standard multi stage wash followed by the car being clayed and then given a second wash and dried off. This took roughly 5 hours despite the car being very well looked after. Once the car was squeaky clean we started on the paintwork correction. Initially the plan had been to just polish the bonnet but it seemed a shame to leave it at that so we ended up going over the whole car . Day 2 was spent on refining the paint finish using a finishing polish, applying pre-wax cleaner, 2 coats of sealant and a coat of Dodo Juice Supernatural wax. We then went on to detail the engine bay, apply wax sealant to the alloys and dress all the exterior trim. Finally we turned our attention to the interior which was pretty spotless to start with so it just required a vacuum and the plastic surfaces dressing.
A couple of days after completing the detail Peter e-mailed us to say that his car was to feature in the VW Driver magazine, which is exciting as it will be our first published car. He said that he'd try and give us a plug, which would be great!
Here are Peter's thoughts on his car's detail.
